The tale concerns the days leading up to the opening night of a modern play at the Vulcan Theater in London. In Marsh’s earliest books, the . NGAIO MARSH – Night at the Vulcan. Little Brown, US, hardcover, First published in the UK as Opening Night (Collins, ). Reprinted many times in both hardcover and paperback. It wasn’t until I’d finished this book and had done some research on it that I discovered that it was the sequel to the short story “I Can Find My Way Out” (EQMM, August ) in which a murder was.
Besides Night at the Vulcan, these other books involve actors and acting: Enter a Murderer, Vintage Murder, Overture to Death, Death at the Dolphin, and Light Thickens. Ngaio Marsh was born in New Zealand. She lived both in England and New Zealand, and some of the novels are set in New Zealand or feature characters from New Zealand. Vulcan is the perfect place to start a conversation about America’s worship of guns. Since the book’s publication in , we’ve seen mass shooting after mass shooting.
